Privacy Notice

Wisparent respects your privacy. This Privacy Notice explains what personal information we collect, why we use it, how we protect it, when we share it, and the choices and rights available to you.

Wisparent is a parenting guidance service intended for adults, parents, and caregivers. The service is not intended for children to create or manage their own accounts.

1. Who we are

The operator identified above is responsible for the personal information processed through Wisparent unless applicable law provides otherwise.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, information created through your use of Wisparent, and limited technical information needed to operate and secure the service.

Account and contact information

This may include:

  • your email address;
  • account identifiers;
  • account verification and authentication records;
  • your account and communication preferences;
  • your presentation-language preference;
  • your weekly guide language;
  • your country of residence, where provided or required.

Information about your child

To match guidance to your child's developmental stage, we may process information you provide about your child, including:

  • date of birth;
  • gender, including a "prefer not to say" choice where available;
  • developmental week or age derived from the date of birth;
  • other child-profile information that you choose to provide through features offered by Wisparent.

You should provide child information only if you are the child's parent, legal guardian, or otherwise authorized to provide that information.

Email and delivery information

When we send Wisparent emails, we may process:

  • which guide or service message was scheduled;
  • delivery status;
  • bounce, failure, suppression, and retry information;
  • unsubscribe and communication-preference information;
  • delivery timestamps;
  • where technically enabled, limited open or link-interaction information used to understand delivery performance and service engagement.

Technical and security information

When you use Wisparent, we or our service providers may process limited technical information such as:

  • IP address;
  • browser and device information;
  • request timestamps;
  • security and fraud-prevention signals;
  • cookies or similar identifiers necessary for authentication, security, language selection, and service operation;
  • Cloudflare or similar network-security information;
  • Turnstile verification information used to protect registration and other forms from abuse.

We do not use browser language or timezone as proof of legal residence.

Support communications

If you contact us, we may retain the information contained in your request and our response so that we can assist you and maintain appropriate support records.

3. How we use personal information

We use personal information to:

  • create, verify, and maintain your Wisparent account;
  • authenticate you and protect your account;
  • calculate your child's developmental week from the information you provide;
  • select and deliver the appropriate weekly guide;
  • remember your presentation and guide-language preferences;
  • schedule communications appropriately;
  • send verification, authentication, service, and weekly-guide emails;
  • manage subscriptions, preferences, and unsubscribe requests;
  • provide customer support;
  • maintain service reliability and security;
  • detect abuse, fraud, or technical problems;
  • measure delivery performance and improve the service;
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use;
  • send marketing communications only where permitted and consistent with your marketing choices or applicable law.

We do not use a child's information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

4. Legal bases for processing

Where the GDPR, UK GDPR, or another law requiring a legal basis applies, our processing may rely on the following bases:

Performance of a contract

We process information necessary to create and operate your account, personalize your weekly guide, deliver requested services, and manage your service preferences.

Legitimate interests

We may process limited information where necessary for legitimate interests such as:

  • securing Wisparent;
  • preventing fraud and abuse;
  • maintaining and improving service reliability;
  • measuring operational email delivery;
  • understanding how core service features perform;
  • protecting our legal rights.

We consider the impact on your privacy before relying on legitimate interests.

Consent

We rely on consent where required, including for optional marketing communications and any processing for which applicable law specifically requires consent.

You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before consent was withdrawn.

Legal obligations

We may process information when necessary to comply with laws, regulatory requirements, lawful requests, tax or accounting obligations, or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

5. Weekly guide personalization

Wisparent uses information such as your child's date of birth and your selected guide language to determine which weekly guide is appropriate.

This personalization is intended to provide relevant parenting information. It is not automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

6. Marketing communications

Marketing communications are separate from the weekly guide and essential service communications.

Where marketing consent is offered, it is optional.

You can withdraw marketing consent or unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the available preference or unsubscribe mechanism.

Withdrawing from marketing does not prevent us from sending essential account, security, legal, or service communications.

7. Weekly guide unsubscribe

You may unsubscribe from weekly guide emails using the unsubscribe mechanism provided in those emails.

Unsubscribing from the weekly guide does not necessarily delete your Wisparent account and does not prevent essential account or security communications.

8. Cookies and similar technologies

Wisparent uses cookies and similar technologies where necessary to:

  • keep sessions secure;
  • authenticate users;
  • remember language or presentation choices;
  • prevent abuse;
  • operate forms and security protections;
  • maintain core service functionality.

Cloudflare and other infrastructure providers may also use security-related cookies or technical signals necessary to provide their services.

If Wisparent introduces optional analytics, advertising, or other non-essential tracking in the future, this Privacy Notice and any required consent controls must be updated before those technologies are enabled.

9. How we share information

We may disclose personal information to service providers that help us operate Wisparent, including providers of:

  • hosting and infrastructure;
  • content delivery and network security;
  • email delivery;
  • database, storage, and backup services;
  • security and abuse prevention;
  • technical support.

These providers may process information only as necessary to provide services to us and subject to applicable contractual and legal protections.

We may also disclose information:

  • where required by law or a valid legal process;
  • to protect the rights, safety, or security of users, Wisparent, or others;
  • in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of the business, subject to appropriate protections.

Wisparent does not sell personal information.

Wisparent does not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

If these practices change, this Notice and any legally required opt-out controls must be updated before the change takes effect.

10. International data transfers

Wisparent is available internationally and uses service providers and technical infrastructure that may process information in countries other than the country where you live.

Where required by law, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, which may include adequacy mechanisms, contractual protections, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

Regardless of where information is processed, we apply appropriate safeguards designed to protect it.

11. How long we keep information

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Notice, including to:

  • provide your account and requested services;
  • maintain security and operational records;
  • honor communication preferences and suppression requests;
  • comply with legal, accounting, regulatory, and recordkeeping obligations;
  • resolve disputes and enforce agreements.

Different categories of information may have different retention periods.

When information is no longer required, we delete, anonymize, or otherwise dispose of it in accordance with applicable requirements and our operational retention procedures.

Some information may remain temporarily in backups or security records until those systems are rotated or deleted under normal retention procedures.

12. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

No Internet service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping access to your email account and devices secure.

If we become aware of a personal-data breach, we will take appropriate action and provide notifications where required by applicable law.

13. Children's privacy

Wisparent is designed for adults, parents, and caregivers. Children are not permitted to create or manage Wisparent accounts.

Information about a child is provided by the adult using the service for the purpose of receiving age-appropriate parenting guidance.

If you believe a child has directly provided personal information to Wisparent without appropriate authorization, contact us at [email protected].

14. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live and the law that applies, you may have rights to:

  • know whether we process your personal information;
  • access personal information we hold about you;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request deletion of certain information;
  • restrict certain processing;
  • object to certain processing;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent;
  • object to direct marketing;
  • lodge a complaint with a privacy or data-protection authority.

These rights may be subject to legal conditions and exceptions.

15. European Economic Area and United Kingdom

If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you may have the rights described above, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent.

You may also lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority in the country where you live, work, or believe an infringement occurred.

Where required, Wisparent will respond to valid rights requests within the timeframes required by applicable law.

16. California and other U.S. state privacy rights

Residents of California and certain other U.S. states may have additional rights under applicable state privacy laws.

Where such law applies to Wisparent, those rights may include:

  • the right to know or access categories and specific pieces of personal information;
  • the right to request deletion;
  • the right to correct inaccurate personal information;
  • the right to obtain information about categories of information collected, used, or disclosed;
  • the right to opt out of certain sales or sharing;
  • the right to limit certain uses of sensitive personal information where applicable;
  • the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising privacy rights.

Wisparent does not currently sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

If applicable law requires an additional request or opt-out method, Wisparent will provide it before engaging in the relevant processing.

17. Canada

If Canadian privacy law applies to our processing of your information, you may have rights to understand how your personal information is collected, used, and disclosed, to request access to your information, and to challenge its accuracy and completeness.

We limit collection, use, disclosure, and retention to appropriate purposes and apply safeguards appropriate to the information we process.

18. Changes to this Privacy Notice

We may update this Privacy Notice when Wisparent, our practices, or applicable laws change.

We will post the updated Notice with a revised effective date. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before a material change takes effect.
